• Terra Arts & Nature Music Series 4 is proud to present the most important production of the Season, Madama Butterfly, on Friday, 26th January 2024, at Arts & Nature Hall, Mae Rim, Chiang Mai. This will be the first time in Chiang Mai, that such an opera is being performed.

• For the leading roles, two highly-rated international Thai opera stars who professionally perform in leading European theatres are flying in specially for the event, joined by other of Thailand’s leading opera performers and elite musicians.

• The compact version of 90 mins (3 Acts with intermission) will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra (12 instruments) by the Arts & Nature Ensemble. The opera will be sung in Italian with English subtitles.

“From The Rings To The Reeds:
Music Compositions based on Thai Boxing Dances”

• In his presentation for From the Rings, Dr Yos Vaneesorn explained that the six new compositions premiered on 7th May are part of a larger set of 14 songs, most of which have been showcased at local and international events and academic conferences and were inspired by the music performed at Muay Thai boxing matches. “The entire body of works spans over 100 minutes … composed for 15 types of woodwind instruments. The six new compositions includes titles such as “Beyond the Cloud’s Veil” for alto flute solo, “Rama’s Arrow” for piccolo and piano and “Divine Discus” for Eb clarinet and piano.

• Discover the connections between classical music and art through this talk and performance program, which will guide the audience through the intricate links between these two art forms. They share much in common, including history, social and cultural contexts, style, and aesthetics.

  Classical Music & Art, Organised by Bangkok Art and Culture Centre together with Yamaha Music School Thailand and a part of the Music Appreciation Program. Meet Oat Montien, an artist, writer, and museum enthusiast, who will share the session with Prapanpong Maneewong, a Yamaha Clarinet Artist and clarinet teacher. The talk is moderated by Nuttha Kuankajorn, principal oboeist at the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and moderator for the Thai PBS podcast “Gen Z & Classical Music.” The session will feature live music performances by Prapanpong Maneewong (clarinet) and Jumpote Korwattana (piano), as well as The Headache Horse: Kant Lormsomboon (piano), Chalat Limpisiri (violin), and Samatchar Pourkarua (cello).

• “MELODIO” is an ensemble that focuses on exploring various kinds of music styles.
• Coming from similar musical backgrounds, we feel that we can make classical music accessible to everyone. We always remind ourselves that the dividing line between classical and popular music was only drawn in recent history. We feel the more that we can do to bring some of the impact found in other genres into the classical music world, the better. There’s no need to dilute the music itself – but no need to rarify it, either. We feel the need to communicate our enthusiasm and excitement about classical music… and to do that, we feel we can use classical instruments to bring excitement to the all generations.
• This time we present you again favored selections from our concert “Rainin’ With U” drenched in sensuous hues of the season. All 5 musicians will take you on a memorable journey that warms your heart on a rainy day.

• Thanida Iamsirikulmitr (flute), Nutthan Surinpaeng (cello), and Kant Lormsomboon (piano) came together during their studies at Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts to form a talented and dynamic musical ensemble. L’Odyssée Trio presents a repertoire ranging from classical works by the sons and contemporaries of Johann Sebastian Bach to Richard Meyer’s arrangements of Thai folk songs.
• This performance aims to showcase the differences and evolution of music from the Baroque period of J.S. Bach to the Classical period of J.C. Bach, highlighting the transformation and enduring power of music across time.
